Cincinnati – Former Bearcats guard Jordan Thompson has been named to the U.S. women's national team roster for the second round of the Volleyball Nations League, which will be played in Arlington, Texas, from May 28 to June 2.
Thompson has been a member of the U.S. Women's National Team since 2019 and is a 2020 Olympic gold medalist. She had a stellar career at the University of California, where she was named AVCA Player of the Year and First Team All-American in 2019, and began her professional career in Turkey in 2020. She set a Cincinnati school record with 827 kills during the 2018 season, and her 6.27 kills per set broke the NCAA record.
The Volleyball Nations League is the world's premier annual international indoor volleyball tournament. The top 16 teams in the world compete in a three-week qualifying tournament, playing four matches per week. The top eight teams at the end of the qualifying tournament advance to the final round.
The U.S. women's team went 2-2 in their first week of matches in Rio de Janeiro and will face Canada (3-1), Bulgaria (0-4), Poland (4-0) and Turkey (2-2) in Arlington.
