HARRIS — After three years as the starting quarterback for the Bark River Harris football team, senior Ethan Ives has signed a letter of intent at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and is scheduled to begin classes in the fall of 2024. be.
Mr. Ives plans to study financial management at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
“There are a lot of opportunities in this field of research.” Ives said. “I aim to grow and excel in whatever direction I take.
Ives chose UW-Stevens Point because of its location.
“The community there feels like home.” Ives said. “I have a lot of family in Wisconsin and it’s not far from home, so it feels like a second home.”
In three years as the starting QB, he completed 93 of 186 passes for 1,265 yards and 16 touchdowns. On the ground, he had 139 carries for 453 yards and eight touchdowns. He was an all-conference quarterback his junior season and also received honorable mention All-UP honors. He also received All-Conference honors as a punter in his sophomore and senior seasons. Ives won 19 games as the Broncos' quarterback, leading the Broncos to winning records in three seasons.
“I coached Ethan from fifth grade through eighth grade. He was the smartest player on the field even at that young age.” Steve Kwarciany said. “He studied the playbook and knew what was expected of him. He's not the biggest, toughest, quickest athlete on the field, but I think he's great on both sides of the ball.” I want to bring 11 kids like that because anything can happen and that's how championships are won.”
Ives' best season came during his junior year, when the Broncos posted an 8-3 record with a 48-0 home win over West Iron County and a 60-7 win over Gwinn.
“He's a great competitor.” said former Broncos coach Al Stenberg. “He gives 100% to every play. He's the kind of player you want to lead your team.”
The Broncos defeated St. Ignace 44-20 in the district semifinals, but lost to Iron Mountain 32-16 in the 2022 district final.
“He’s an all-around great kid and athlete.” Broncos coach Caleb Adams said. “He always works hard on the field and in the weight room, and the character he exhibits shows why he was our senior captain last season. His teammates believe in him and are proud of him. He will go above and beyond to help his teammates, he is exactly what an athlete should be.”
