The Indian cricket community took to social media to congratulate Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final in Chennai on Sunday to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the third time.
A well-rounded performance, including blistering efforts from Mitchell Starc and Andre Russell and a half-century from Venkatesh Iyer, saw Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets at the Chepak Stadium in Chennai on Sunday to clinch their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title and their first in a decade.
After the match, Board of Control for Cricket in India Secretary General Jay Shah praised captain Shreyas Iyer's leadership and the team's consistency.
Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also praised KKR's performance, pointing out that while the batsmen played a brilliant game in the first half, the bowlers were the stars of the game in the second half.
India opener Shikhar Dhawan also hailed his team's dominating victory and praised his former team SRH for their stellar performance in the tournament.
Former West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle, who represented KKR between 2009 and 2010, was also ecstatic as he danced to the catchy tune and congratulated his former team.

Former Indian cricketer Mithali Raj also congratulated KKR for their “superb” performance throughout the season and said that mentor Gautam Gambhir's presence has been crucial for the team.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag also congratulated the team on the win, quoting actor and team owner Shah Rukh Khan's lines from the film “Om Shanti Om” on Twitter. He also expressed happiness for Gambhir and Gujarat Titans (GT) head coach Ashish Nehra for their successful leadership and the team's victory.
In the match, SRH won the toss and elected to bat first. KKR rattled SRH with successive wickets, with big man Mitchell Starc living up to his INR 247.5 million price tag. Only captain Pat Cummins (24 off 19 balls, 2 fours and 1 six) and Aiden Markram (20 off 23 balls, 3 fours) managed to reach the 20-run mark as SRH were restricted to 113 in 18.3 overs.
Andre Russell (3/19) was KKR's leading bowler. Starc (2/14) and Harshit Rana (2/24) also contributed with the ball. Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarti and Vaibhav Arora picked up one wicket each.
Venkatesh Iyer (52 runs off 26 balls, four boundaries and a six) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39 runs off 32 balls, four fours and a six) were instrumental for KKR as they completed their 114-run run chase in just 10.3 overs with eight wickets remaining. (ANI)
