NEW DELHI: The newly built Nassau County International Cricket Stadium near New York was inaugurated on Wednesday as the sports world is “excited” to conquer new territory through the T20 World Cup in June.

The high-profile 20-over event will be co-hosted by West Indies and the United States from June 1, with venues in New York, Florida and Dallas.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) remains pleased with its focus on the India-Pakistan clash and the Nassau Project as part of bringing the game to the United States.
“Yes, absolutely!'' Chris Tetley, ICC's head of events, told reporters at a media roundtable: “That match could be held anywhere and the interest in it would be immense.'' Told.
“The news articles we've seen and the cricket media coverage in the continental United States and around the world. We've never seen anything like that at an ICC event.”

T20 cricket will also feature as one of the five new sports at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Creating a cricket stadium in Nassau remains a major challenge for the ICC, which has brought in Adelaide Oval curator Damian Hough for the job.
Hough created the first drop-in pitch in Adelaide in 2013 and the modern strip at the Nassau County ground promises excellent cricket and balance between bat and ball.
“People shouldn't worry about drop-in pitches,” Huff said.
“They have been proven all over the world and certainly in Australia. Some of the best cricket has been played on drop-in pitches with great success.”
