It's already spring in college football. But first, The Athletic Media reporter Andrew Marchand explains Friday night's latest feature.
friday fox
weekday network college football
This season, Fox will broadcast Big 12, Big Ten and Mountain West games in prime time on Fridays. College football has been broadcast on Fridays for years, usually on ESPN or other cable channels.
This was largely expected since Fox did not renew the rights to WWE's Friday Night SmackDown. I brought Andrew in to answer some questions about what this means for college football going forward.
How do you predict the success of the network's Friday Night Game in its first year?
That's success, but you have to define success properly. The Big Noon, created by Fox several years ago to kick off its top games at noon on Saturdays, captures the network's No. 1 game of the week. This Friday's TV slot will continue to feature at least one big-name team each week. Despite not having the best games of the week, Fox appears to be established as the destination for Friday night college football, with the Big Noon Kickoff pregame set for Saturday's ratings battle with ESPN's College GameDay. Could be helpful. Viewers often leave the TV on and stay from the night before. A powerful TV plan.
What is the biggest competition? We've seen the concerns surrounding high school football and the start of the World Series.
When the Big Ten added Oregon and Washington State, part of the calculation was for Fox to add the fourth-best game in the league every Friday. Yes, people will still go to high school games, and the World Series, also on FOX, could move one game to FS1 this fall, but Fox Sports executives say this game is better. I believe it will be rated higher than WWE's SmackDown.
All in all, it made Friday a little more fun.
Spring is coming
Future team story
Spring baseball has begun at many schools across the country. Introducing the program starting this week.
- Georgia: Georgia was largely an afterthought during an offseason that saw a lot of turnover in coaching staffs and rosters for many teams. Kirby Smart of the Bulldogs will almost officially take over Nick Saban's title as the greatest active coach in the sport, and the team will have starting quarterback Carson Beck back. Georgia's 2024 schedule isn't as forgiving. The season opened with a game against Clemson in Atlanta, and the Bulldogs departed for games against Kentucky and Alabama before taking on Auburn. All of this is creating a new sense of urgency in Athens.
Other schools started spring baseball last week…
Additionally, some schools in other areas are making more of an effort to play spring baseball. game It starts this weekend. What's up, Mizzou?
