Photos of Lewis Courtright's time on the college basketball team show him constantly sliding, diving and flying after the basketball, highlighting his natural drive as he joined head coach Danny Sprinkle's first team at the University of Washington.
Just the distance he traveled from his most recent stint at the University of Rhode Island to the University of Washington (3,010 miles) shows he has a lot of patience in finding the right basketball environment for himself.
The school announced this week that the 6-foot-3 Kortright has completed the enrollment process at Montlake, making him the sixth player to officially join Coach Sprinkle's Huskies recruiting roster, which he plans to add 10 players to in the coming weeks.
“Lewis is a big, athletic player who has proven he can score and assist at the D1 level,” Sprinkle said in a statement announcing the signing.
The 6-foot-3 Courtright started 31 of 32 games for a Rams team that went 12-20, averaging 10 points, four rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.
He is one of six new guards for the Huskies, who have completely revamped their backcourt since replacing fired Mike Hopkins as head coach with Sprinkle.
Courtright will be competing for UW's starting spot along with 6-foot-1 DJ Davis, a transfer from Butler University; 6-foot-5 Mekhi Mason, a transfer from Rice University; 6-foot-4 Tyree Iheanacho, a transfer from North Dakota, and two 6-foot-4 freshmen, Zoom Diallo from Tacoma, Washington, and Jace Butler from Point Reyes Station, California.
Judging by their collegiate experience, Courtright and Davis, who averaged 13.5 points per game last season — both are seniors — could easily be the game-starting duo that they've been well utilized at.
Of the freshman veteran guards, Mason started 77 of 77 games at Rice, Davis started 69 of 116 games at UC Irvine and Butler, Iheanacho started 41 of 60 games at North Dakota and James Madison and Courtright started 43 of 103 games at Rhode Island and Quinnipiac.
“I'm looking forward to seeing our guards compete in practice,” Sprinkle said.
