Kalamazoo, Michigan โ Western Michigan, which dominated Miami last weekend, moved up several spots in the latest national poll released this afternoon.
The Broncos moved up two spots to No. 12 in the nation in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live poll. WMU was able to get past Providence and UMASS. The Brown and Gold moved up one spot to 14th in the USCHO poll.
The NCHC continues to have six teams ranked, with Denver, North Dakota, Colorado College, Omaha and St. Cloud State joining the Broncos in the top 20. Only one other conference has six or more teams in the rankings this week.
WMU has a big weekend ahead of them as they travel to St. Cloud, Minnesota for the NCHC quarterfinals. A few weeks ago, the Broncos and Huskies split a series at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, with WMU winning the series opener 4-3.
If Western Michigan wins this best-of-three series, the Broncos will advance to next weekend's NCHC Frozen Faceoff in St. Paul, Minnesota. The semifinals and championship will be held at Xcel Energy Center, home of the Minnesota Wild.
This season, WMU has been celebrating 50 years of Bronco Varsity Hockey. This is being commemorated in a variety of ways, including displaying a special his 50th anniversary logo in the center of the ice, special in-game tributes throughout the season, and a special Alumni Weekend. .
