HASTINGS, Neb. โ The Hastings University football team is adding several new members for the fall NAIA football season.
Jeff Tomlin just retired as head coach at Grand Island High School, where he turned the Islanders program into a powerhouse. GISH made the playoffs in 19 of 21 seasons, won 18 playoff games and made one state final appearance. The Islanders won four district championships, six HAC championships, and won 11 straight games to qualify for the postseason. He led the Islanders to 13 quarterfinals, four semifinals and one state final appearance. Tomlin will coach the Broncos' defensive line.
Mike Dixon coached with Matt Franzen at Doan College and helped the Tigers become nationally relevant while qualifying for the NAIA playoffs on two separate occasions and improving on the offensive side of the ball. brought a wealth of experience. Dixon will coach the Broncos' outside receivers in 2024.
DJ Prouts comes to the Broncos after spending time coaching under Tomlin at GISH from 2015-2023. Prior to that, he served as offensive coordinator, running backs and quarterbacks coach at Gibbon from 2010 to 2014. His experience as an inside wide receiver coach will be very helpful on the offensive side of the ball.
Josh Hafner will be joining the staff as an analyst. He has worked in the IT field for the past 14 years supporting many end users and information systems and is scheduled to make his debut in the world of football in the fall of 2024.
