April 18 (UPI) — Haley Cavinder, Miami's leading scorer during the 2022-23 season, announced Thursday that she and her twin sister Hannah will return to the Hurricanes next season. The Cavinder twins did not go out for 2023.
They announced last April that they would be giving up five years of eligibility to pursue other opportunities.
Haley committed to TCU in November. Hanna announced Wednesday that he will play for the Hurricanes next season.
“In light of yesterday's news that my sister will be returning to play ball in Miami, and after careful consideration, I have decided to return to the University of Miami for my fifth and final year with Hannah,” Haley Cavinder wrote on Instagram. I decided to play,” he posted on Instagram. And X.
“There is nothing more important than the bond I have with my family and my twin sister, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to play together again.
“I'm excited about next season and can't wait to play in America.”
Haley started 35 games for the Hurricanes two seasons ago, averaging a team-leading 12.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists as they advanced to the Elite Eight, but lost to LSU. These Tigers defeated Caitlin Clark's Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2023 title game.
According to on3.com, Cavinders are two of the most valuable college athletes in the name, image and likeness era. Their NIL approval portfolio includes his WWE, Raising Cane's, Intuit TurboTax, among others.
Haley Cavinder started 35 games for the Hurricanes during the 2022-23 season. Hannah Cavinder, who averaged 3.8 points per game in 2022-23, appeared in 34 games but did not start.
The twins played for former Hurricanes coach Katie Meyer that season. Katie Meyer announced last month that she would retire after 19 seasons. They spent the first three seasons of their college careers at Fresno State.
The announcement of Haley's return to the Hurricanes and departure from TCU came less than two hours after multiple media outlets reported that former LSU guard Haley Van Lith had committed to TCU.
