Greeley High School swimming standout Audrey Cohen is organizing a fundraiser on June 8th with a goal of raising $50,000 for Barbara Bush Children's Hospital.
Kohn, a fourth-year student, is using his swimming ability to achieve that total. She and other area swimmers are seeking pledges from residents and businesses to participate in the swim-a-thon, the first part of the fundraiser, to be held from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Greeley Pool. Contributors agree to donate a certain amount per lap. Cohen hopes to have about 100 swimmers participate, she said.
Those interested in supporting the fundraiser can also donate at p2p.onecause.com/bbch-diy/audrey-cohen.
The second part of the fundraiser, which begins at 10 a.m., will be a community event where children and swimmers of all abilities can participate in games such as sharks and minnows and a dolphin diving relay.
Cohen, who holds the state record for the 100-yard breaststroke, is a volunteer with the Hospital Senior Living Program at Maine Medical Center. Her volunteer work with the program led her to connect with the philanthropy team at Barbara Bush Children's Hospital and lead the fundraising effort.
Cohen plans to continue his swimming career at Penn State in the fall.
