Gordon Conference Season Review, 2023-24
player of the year
Kenny Cullman, Don Bosco Prep
The senior was the anchor of one of the best defenses in the state. Regardless of the situation, Don Bosco Prep head coach Greg Toskos wanted to keep Cullman on the ice, and he almost always succeeded. He played a fundamentally sound game and was a big reason why Don Bosco Prep allowed just 1.79 points per game, the third-fewest points total in New Jersey. The talented senior also showed an offensive flare to the game, leading the entire Ironman team with 24 assists.
Coach of the Year
Andy Godzis, Christian Brothers
The Colts lost the majority of their roster in the offseason. Yet, despite having to fill more than 10 new roles, they remained a competitive group, at times coming close to taking the top spot in the Gordon Conference. Under Goidici's guidance, Christian Brothers still managed to reach both the Gordon Cup and the non-public semifinals, but both fell to Don Bosco Prep. The 2023-24 Colts are a young group, but they have a very bright future ahead of them this coming season.
team of the year
St. Augustine
For two seasons in a row, St. Augustine has silenced all the critics and skeptics. The team was consistently among the best teams in the Gordon Conference during the regular season and used a blowout loss in the Gordon Cup Playoffs to accelerate their run to the state championship. After losing to Delbarton in the Gordon Cup semifinals, the Hermits took control of the standings and captured their second straight non-public state title with a historic 10-6 win over Don Bosco Prep. This was the most goals ever scored in a New Jersey state finals game. It also marked the third state title in program history.
