Carlson’s Mya Oikarinen, #12, advances upfield with the ball through the rain during the Marauders’ road match against DRL foe Roosevelt on April 29, 2024. (ALEXANDER MULLER — MediaNews Group)
It was less-than-idea weather conditions for the latest slate of Downriver League girls’ soccer action on Monday. One of the matchups around the conference featured Wyandotte Roosevelt welcoming in Gibraltar Carlson.
Both teams were eying back-to-back victories after picking up wins over DRL foes in their previous time out last week. Carlson hung on for a 1-0 win at home Dearborn Edsel Ford on April 24, while Roosevelt a day later also won by that same score on the road vs Southgate Anderson.
Battling the elements, the hometown Bears made history by collecting the program’s first-ever win over Carlson, pitching a second consecutive shutout with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Marauders.
