Initial reactions and observations
- What an absurd game. Germany scored within the first seven seconds, but spent the first half stranded by the superior French team. Then in the second half, everything turned upside down. Despite making no changes, another German team came out of the tunnel at half-time and overwhelmed what many considered to be the best national team in the world. Much will be written about this game in the coming days, but that second half should give German fans hope.
- I would never say that Germans don't have talent. It's clear that France has more depth in terms of players, but if it's about the starting lineup, Germany can compete with any team in the world.
- Joshua Kimmich did a really good job of containing Mbappe in the field, despite the huge pace difference between him and the Frenchman. Although he was close at times, the PSG frontman never had a chance to make a game-changing play.
- Does anyone else feel Gundogan is wasted in the AM position? Especially since Germany has so many talented players vying for spots. Today he didn't hide behind his glory.
- Toni Kroos has made a great return to Northern Territory play. His passing was crisp and he gave German football the tempo it had long lacked.

kick off: in progress!
1 hour left until kickoff: We have a lineup! Kai Havertz will start at the top of the German squad in the XI that more or less everyone expected. Gundogan will wear the captain's armband, while Mittelstedt will play at left-back. Oh, and Toni Kroos is also back paired with Robert Andrić. Now, it remains to be seen whether they will be able to achieve a result against France.
With the Euros just a few months away, former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has little time to get his team into shape. Germany is a strange bunch. They have a lot of talent but can't seem to show it on the pitch. With proven veterans such as Thomas Muller, Toni Kroos and Ilkay Gundogan, as well as up-and-coming youngsters such as Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz, the current squad will hope to be able to break that curse. .
However, the problem lies not in talent but in execution. Can Germany achieve a good euro this year? This match against France will be the first step in answering that question.
