Baton Rouge – Four members of the 2024 LSU men's basketball team received their university diplomas during spring commencement exercises held on the LSU campus Friday and Saturday.
Those receiving degrees will be graduate transfer Hunter Dean, fifth-year student Trey Hannibal, and seniors Derek Fountain and Mwani Wilkinson.
Dean will come to LSU after spending three years at George Washington University to pursue a graduate certificate in workforce development.
Hannibal previously spent two seasons with LSU basketball after spending time at South Carolina and working with coach Matt McMahon at Murray State University. In the 2022-23 season, Hannibal was named League Player of the Week after leading LSU to an upset of then No. 9 University of Arkansas in the SEC opener. Hannibal became the primary point guard in early February and averaged 7.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists on the season. In his SEC play he averaged 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds.
Fountain has played the past two years at LSU, playing in 64 games and starting 35 in two seasons, although he struggled with injuries his senior season. He averaged 6.6 points and 4.8 rebounds in two years at LSU. Fountain is a native of Holly Springs, Mississippi, and began his career at Mississippi State University before transferring to LSU.
Mr. Fountain and Mr. Hannibal both earned degrees in interdisciplinary studies.
Wilkinson played four seasons at LSU after coming to the school from Las Vegas, Nevada. Despite some injuries during his career, he played in 100 games, started 57, made 51 3-pointers and averaged 3.2 points and 2.2 rebounds over four years.
Wilkinson completed a degree in sports management.
