This week's Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week Award dives into the pool again!
Fossil Ridge boys swimmer Brennen O'Neill won last week's Class 5A Boys Swimming State Championships, earning him top honors in the Fort Collins area from May 5-11.
The SaberCats junior dominated the 200-yard individual medley, holding a wire-to-wire lead and winning by more than 1.5 seconds.
O'Neal also set a personal record in all stroke events with a time of 1 minute, 49.13 seconds to win her first state title.
With this win, he completed this season's city, conference and state championships, marking a significant accomplishment in Colorado's highly competitive swimming world.
In addition to his individual wins, O'Neal helped Fossil's 200 and 400 free relay teams finish in the top five in both events and fourth overall as a team.
O'Neal joins Windsor swimmer Jake Eccleston, Fossil Ridge basketball player Kayden Clagett and SaberCats softball freshman Avery Akers in earning this year's Blue FCU Athlete of the Week honor. He is the second consecutive swimmer and the third Fossil Ridge swimmer to do so.
The SaberCats swimmer won by receiving the majority (55.4%) of the 6,293 votes cast by fans.
This exceeded other elite performances of other candidates.
- Kayden Souders, Fort Collins Baseball (runner-up at 24.1%)
- Lily Eisbrenner, Timnath Women's Soccer
- Nevaeh Lula, Rocky Mountain Women's Track and Field
- Kylie Becker, Windsor Women's Track and Field
