U.S. District Judge Janet Neff said Larry Nassar “should never be in contact with children again,” following the government's recommendations in the pornography case.
Neff said Nassar's federal sentence won't begin until he finishes serving his sentence for sexual assault. The 54-year-old is set to be sentenced in state court in January for those two cases.
Nassar, who worked at Michigan State University and the Indianapolis-based Olympic gymnastics organization USA Gymnastics, has admitted to molesting girls who sought treatment for lower back and hip pain.
“Beneath this facade lurked a predator,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean Lewis said in court documents.
Olympians Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney and Gabby Douglas have said they were victims of Nassar while he worked for USA Gymnastics and accompanied them to practices and international competitions.
In his letter to Neff, Maloney called Nassar “a monster who has left a lasting mark on my heart.”
In court documents, the defense said Nassar “deeply regrets the pain he has caused the community.”
The child pornography was discovered last year while Nassar was under investigation for assault.
In addition to the criminal cases, more than 100 women and girls have accused Nassar, with Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics named as defendants in many of the lawsuits.
