Ramapo may have that guy.
Multiple sources, including those close to the situation, have indicated to NorthJersey.com that current Demarest head football coach Nick Guttuso has been offered the job as Ramapo's head football coach.
Head football coaches must be approved by the Ramapo Indian Hills School Board. The board is scheduled to meet Thursday night. As of Tuesday afternoon, no agenda for the meeting had been posted.
According to officials, Guttuso and two other candidates have been selected. One is from North Jersey and the other is coaching in Central Jersey.
Guttuso is a Ramapo graduate who played under Mike Miello and then Drew Gibbs.
After college, Gatso was hired by Gibbs as an assistant, first with the freshman team and then with the varsity team. He was a line coach for the Raiders and was part of five sectional championship teams with the Green Raiders.
Gibbs tragically passed away during football practice in 2021, just before the Green Raiders' final sectional game against Northern Highlands.
Ramapo hired Mike DeFazio to replace Gibbs in March 2022. DeFazio led the Green Raiders to a 20-4 record in two seasons and a berth in the Group 4 state finals in 2023. DeFazio resigned in January, the reason for which was not made public.
Guttuso has been Demarest's head coach for the past two seasons, finishing 1-8 each season. The program will compete in 2024 in the SFC Ivy division, which was established for struggling programs to promote participation and success.
