Police in Oxford, Mississippi, announced that Sharp was arrested Friday afternoon. No one was injured in the shooting.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. โ Oxford police announced that a former Ole Miss basketball player has been arrested and charged with firing a gun during a vehicle seizure.
Jamarion Sharp, 22, was charged with aggravated assault and sentenced to $10,000 bail, OPD said.
OPD investigators say they responded to a report of a shooting in the Price Hill Park area on Friday, April 26, 2024, at approximately 5 p.m. They said someone fired a gun at the victim and the vehicle was impounded. There were no injuries.
Police said several people were taken into custody and Sharp was booked into the Lafayette County Jail after being identified as the shooter.
Sharpe is a 7-foot-5 senior forward from Kentucky. He was named to the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award Preseason Watch List for the 2023-24 season, playing in 31 games and starting 15 for the Rebels. He averaged 15.8 minutes and 3.3 points per game.
According to Ole Miss Athletics, Sharp is the tallest player in NCAA Division I basketball at 7 feet, 5 inches, and one of the tallest living players.
Earlier this month, Sharp participated in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, which allows senior college basketball players to compete in front of professional scouts.
