TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Former Kansas State center and 2008 national champion Matt Kleinman is running for Congress.
Kleinman says on his website that his mission is to “strengthen Kansas communities and make them healthier and more supportive for everyone.”
Additionally, the Democratic candidate said he understands the value of work and wants to build a stronger Kansas that works for everyone.
“I am running for Congress because I have spent my career building communities with working class Kansans and I know the values that define us,” Klein said. Mann said on his website. “We have known the value of our labor, we have shown love to our neighbors, and we have relied on each other in good times and bad. But now we are facing a national challenge that does not address Kansas’ unique challenges. In the midst of this, Kansan's daily needs are being ignored. Our hospitals are struggling, rents are rising, our schools and teachers are under attack, and our workers are being favored in favor of big business. Marginalized by law.
As Kansans, we must look away from extremism and start building bridges. Country towns and city streets have more in common than we realize. We can build a stronger Kansas that works for everyone, no matter who they are or where they come from. ”
Kleinman, an Overland Park native, was invited to join the Kansas State men's basketball team as a walk-on from 2004 to 2009. Kleinman was a member of the 2008 National Championship winning team. The 6-foot-10 former center played in 70 games for the Jayhawks.
Kleinman studied architecture while attending the University of Kansas and was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll five times.
