The home of former University of Kentucky men's basketball coach John Calipari recently went on the market with an asking price of just under $4 million. Here's what we know:
Calipari's Lexington home is located on Richmond Road southeast of downtown and is on 1.2 acres and 9,615 square feet, according to listings on Zillow. The five-bedroom, eight-bathroom home has a grand entryway and dramatic staircase. Two-story stone fireplace. Large kitchen with island. The basement has a projection room and gym area. Outside there is a pool, half-court basketball court, pool house, and three-car garage.
Calipari, who left the Wildcats last month after 15 years to take the head coaching job at the University of Arkansas, bought the home in 2009 for $1.875 million. Melinda Drake, a real estate agent with The Brokerage who listed the home, said she listed the property based on appraised value, not market value.

Drake said Calipari wants the house to go to a good family or someone who will enjoy it as much as his family has enjoyed living there for many years. The property could have been listed for a higher price in the range of $4.1 million to $4.4 million, rather than the current asking price of just under $4 million. This also includes the sale of two separate lots, one with a pool house and basketball court, and the other with his three-car garage and residence.
The home is located on historic Lexington Avenue near Ashland Park and has an iconic and beautiful design, Drake said. “This is an opportunity to own a piece of Kentucky history,” the Zillow listing said.
