Originally a second-round pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2015, Funchess signed with the Lions as a tight end in 2022, but that didn't last long. He was released just over two months after arriving in Detroit in June.
Prior to his tenure in Detroit, Funchess spent four seasons with the Panthers, one season with the Indianapolis Colts and even had coffee with the Green Bay Packers.
