NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – As Lipscomb Academy players headed to practice Monday, they were met with a photo of old teammate Chazan Page. It was put on display two weeks ago and served as an inspiration for head coach Jamie Graham, but now it is a reminder of the defeat.
“Knowing that I never had a chance to actually introduce him to the photo and to walk past that photo and look at it now, that was my plan after he finished spring ball. , that's the part that hurts me the most,” Graham said.
The 20-year-old played football at Lipscomb Academy before becoming an offensive lineman at Tennessee State University.
Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Metro Nashville Police said a man was crossing Gallatin Pike near Marion Avenue when he was hit by a car.
The driver sped away, and Page was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
“It just hurts. Honestly, it hurts,” Graham said.
Now he's trying to focus on the good times. Because he knows that's what Page wants to be remembered for.
“It was crazy, because even if you were mad at him, he'd give you this little smile and this little smile and you'd forget everything. No matter what you were messing around with. “But he was the ultimate competitor and a great young man,” Graham said.
Mr Graham said Page had a bright future ahead of him, one that was suddenly taken away from him.
“He had that kind of personality, he had that drive to be the best, so it's just a shame he couldn't do that,” Graham said.
Police are still investigating the car and driver that killed Page. They believe it to be a red sedan or small SUV with damage to the front.
Anyone with information about the hit-and-run driver or the red vehicle is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers can remain anonymous and receive a cash reward.
