Rosemont, Illinois โ 1st year forward Aiden Fink (Calgary, Alberta) has been selected as one of three finalists for the B1G Freshman of the Year award for the 2023-24 season, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
This is Penn State's fourth season and the first time since the 2019-20 season that Penn State has had a finalist for a major conference award, but the Nittany Lions have won the Rookie of the Year award since the 2017-18 season when the league began honoring finalists. This is the first time that the competition has produced finalists. Annual award.
Fink joins first-year standouts Michigan State's Artyom Levshunov and Minnesota's Sam Lindsell as FOTY finalists.
Fink was named Big Ten Star of the Week three times this season, was named HCA National Rookie of the Month in November and is a 2024 Hobey Baker Award nominee. He was also named the Tim Taylor Rookie of the Year. list.
The Calgary, Alberta native finished his rookie season with Hockey Valley with a team-high 15 goals and 19 assists, three multi-goal games and nine multi-point games, and a team-high 34 points in 34 games.
Fink's 34 points led all conference freshmen, and his 15 points were second-most among Big Ten freshmen.
Fink set a Penn State single-season record with eight power plays to his credit this season. He is also one of only three Nittany Lions in history to reach the 30-point mark as a freshman, joining Nittany Lions Denis Smirnov 2020 and Nate Sucess 2020. His 34 points rank third on the Penn State freshman scoring list, his 15 goals rank alone fifth all-time among Penn State recruits, and his 19 assists are tied for second.
