In the quarterfinals of the Class MM state tournament on March 5, the North Haven girls basketball team took on No. 30 RHAM and won 65-43. Damaria Williams-Davis and Leah Calderon both scored 17 points to lead the Nighthawks. Eva Johnson also added 14 points and Ava Papa added nine points.
In the semifinals on March 9, the team faced second-place Northwest Catholic and lost 59-43.
boy basketball
North Haven men's basketball qualified for the SCC tournament as the No. 8 seed. In the first round on February 22nd, they faced 9th place Hamden and won 64-51.
In the second round on February 24, the team faced top-seeded Notre Dame and lost 68-40.
The Nighthawks then entered the Division III state tournament as a No. 13 seed. In the first round on March 5, the team faced No. 20 Immaculate and won 65-60 after two overtimes.
In the second round on March 7, the team faced No. 4 seed Shepaug Valley, winning 76-55.
men's ice hockey
The North Haven boys ice hockey team entered the Division II state tournament as the No. 11 seed. In the first round on March 5, the Nighthawks faced No. 6 North Branford and lost 5-3. This season, Bryce Mastriano led the team with 19 goals and Bryce Montabana led the team with 15 assists. Goaltender Jack Keeney averaged 3.4 goals against.
women's ice hockey
The Amity/North Haven/Cheshire Blades received a bye in the first round of the SCC Tournament as the No. 1 seed.
In the semifinals on February 21st, the team faced 4th place WH-SHA Corp, losing 2-1. Blaze head coach John Peschel was named the conference's coach of the year.
The team entered the state tournament as an 11th seed. The team faced No. 6 Southington in the first round on February 26, but lost 4-1. It's been a great season for the Blades as the season draws to a close and 12 freshmen have bright futures ahead of them. Captains Abby Fittle and Elaina Scacino served as very strong leaders throughout the winter.
fencing
The North Haven fencing team competed in the team state championship on March 9th. The girls saber finished fifth and the girls epee won the state title.
The third-seeded women's saber team, made up of senior captain Anita Sajjan, Nina Nowicki, Angela Lin, and Skye Carlisle, lost a close match to Hopkins in the first round despite the efforts of all three players. Ta. In the repechage, the girls defeated Fairfield 5-3 in the second round and secured a fifth-place finish by defeating Morgan School in Clinton.
The fifth-seeded women's epee team, made up of senior captain Ayla Shivri and juniors Fiona Gao, Anna Hansard and Jannat Imran, started the day with a 5-1 victory over No. 4 Hopkins. Ta.
Shivli and Gao won two matches each, with Hansard winning the decisive fifth match 5-4 to advance their team to round two. In the semifinals, the women's team faced No. 1 Waterford. Waterford's top two epee fencers both earned first team All-State honors. Won the individual championship. In the final, the women's team faced No. 3 seed and Central Conference champion Daniel Hand, who defeated North Haven twice this season. The women's team started with a 3-0 lead, with Shivri and Gao winning two games each, keeping the team on pace and winning the match 5-2. This time it was Shivli's turn to decide the match, winning 5-4 in extra time to seal the victory.
At the individual state championships, Gavin Brown, Ben Pollio and Grant Grotzke competed in boys foil. Emily Cerasoli (16) and Hanako Moffat (22) competed in the women's foil. Matt Compare, 8, earned second team All-State honors in boys epee, with Tim Flanagan, 51, and Jonas Miller, 56, also competing.
Shivli, 7, was named to the All-State second team in girls epee, and other Nighthawks competitors included Hansard, 13, and Gao, 43. In men's epee, North Haven was represented by Jeff Stoker (27 years old), Colby Parker (31 years old), and Roberto Frunzio (35 years old). Women's saber competitors included Lin (9), Nowicki (10) and Sajan (16).
