Do people use “HELLA” anymore? …I don’t know, but FAU Swimming is HELLA Creative.
The FAU Owls and Tulane Green Wave men's college basketball teams faced off on Saturday, maximizing home court advantage as the Owls took home the conference victory. And the biggest thank you from FAU hoopers for their donations should go to the school's swim team.
The Owls and Green Wave went back and forth for the first half of the game, but ultimately Florida Atlantic would maintain control before halftime — at that point in the game, they were 7-7. I went into the locker room. Point advantageous.
The Owls never looked back from there, winning 79-73 when the smoke cleared. (Related: UConn head coach Dan Hurley celebrates Big East regular season championship in true American fashion)
Fresh from reaching the Final Four last season, FAU students and fans created a noisy environment at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena and were a constant thorn in Tulane's side. And this was especially true for college swim teams.
Beneath the basket in the front row, members of the Florida Atlantic swim team decided to use a very interesting tactic to distract the Green Wave's free throw shooters. And it worked.
Heading into the game, Tulane was shooting 73 percent from the free throw line. In this match, they were able to score only 58%.
