Aston Villa's England forward Rachel Daley has announced her retirement from international football.
The 32-year-old was part of the England squad that won the 2022 European Championship and reached the 2023 World Cup final in back-to-back summers.
Daly won 84 senior caps and scored 16 goals for the Lionesses during an eight-year international career.
Her last appearance for her country came on the bench in Tuesday's Euro 2025 qualifier against Ireland in a 2-0 win at the Aviva Stadium.
“I'd love to play for England forever, but now it's time for me to prove myself on the international stage,” Daly said.
“Today is a very difficult day for me, but also a day filled with reflection and huge gratitude. It is the greatest honor to play for and represent England.
“Winning the Euros and reaching the World Cup final changed a lot for me, not only as a footballer but as a person.
“I feel very lucky to have played a small part in making Lionesses history and feel now is the perfect time to pass the baton to the next generation and become England's number one fan from the stands.” Masu!”
Daly made his England debut against Serbia in 2016 and went on to represent the Lionesses in three major tournaments.
During her club career, she played as a striker and has played primarily as a full-back for England under coach Sarina Wigman.
She started every game at left-back in England's victorious Euro 2022 campaign and was primarily a left-back, despite finishing as Women's Super League (WSL) top scorer at the 2023 World Cup. He played in 7 games as a. previous season.
Wiegman paid tribute to Daly after her retirement, especially praising her versatility.
“Rachel is a great part of our story and the history we have built together. It was a pleasure to work with her,” said the England manager.
“I have never worked with a player who is so versatile, always smiling, always giving energy and trying to do his best for the team.
“It's sad that she's not with us anymore, but we should celebrate what she did for the team. And now she's become our biggest fan. .”
