Santa Clara Swim Club, 14 years old Shareef Elaidi At last weekend's George Haines International Swimming Meet, he won the 100-meter butterfly in 54.17 seconds, the second-fastest time ever for a 13-14 year old boy in the United States. Thomas Heilmann (53.27 from 2021).
Elaidi was just below her record high of 54.44, recorded in March. Andrey MinakovHe broke the 2016 Pacific Swimming LSC record of 54.04, but also set a new LSC record by winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.73, beating his own record of 1:04.22 set in February.
Elaidi also set a huge PR in the 400 IM (4:31.16), shaving more than four seconds off his previous PR (4:35.39 set in June of last year) and propelling him to 11th in the National Age Rankings (NAG). He also posted even more impressive times in the 50 freestyle (24.13) and 200 IM (2:04.27), the latter just half a second shy of his NAG record (2:03.73 set in March).
The 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly saw some entertaining battles between Luca vs. Luca. Luca UrlandThe 22-year-old American record holder, who is believed to be training at DART Swimming in Sacramento before returning to the University of Georgia this fall, won all three events, but Pleasanton Seahawks star Luka Mijatovic It was a fast time for a 15-year-old.
Urland won the 200m freestyle in 1:48.34, the 400m freestyle in 3:51.34, and the 200m butterfly in 1:55.95. None of these were season best times, but her win in the 400m freestyle likely makes her the sixth-fastest American swimmer this year. Urland was just half a second shy of her season best 200m butterfly time of 1:55.63, which is the best time of any American swimmer this year.
Mijatovic, who turned 15 last month, took runner-up finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:49.79) and 400 freestyle (3:52.45), just behind his personal bests from March (1:49.63/3:51.18 as a 14-year-old). He is currently ranked 14th in the 200 freestyle and 9th in the 400 freestyle in the 2015-16 NAG rankings. At the LSC level, he Aidan Barnes' His 400 freestyle time in 2014 (3:52.51) fell just short of the former Pleasanton Seahawks star. Maxim RooneyHe broke his 2014 200m freestyle record (1:49.54).
Mijatovic also placed fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:04.87) and first in the 800 freestyle (8:12.08), making her a dark horse in the running to make the Olympic team this summer. Though Mijatovic's time was well behind her personal best of 4:59.64 in the 800 freestyle set last August, the win was still enough to move her into the top 100 in the NAG rankings at 72nd place. She improved her personal bests in the 50 freestyle (24.23) and 200 individual medley (2:06.73), improving her time by 0.59 seconds in the former and 0.28 seconds in the latter.
Senior at Stanford University Aaron Sequeira Sequeira won the 200 individual medley in 2:02.98, shaving more than a second off his personal best of 2:04.47 set earlier this month, and in the process dipping under the U.S. Olympic qualifying standard of 2:03.49 just before the end of preliminaries. Sequeira finished less than a second ahead of Stanford sophomore McClellan Sequeira. Gibson Holmestook second place in 2:03.68, shaving more than three seconds off his personal best, just 0.2 seconds short of qualifying.
Mijatovic's training partner, a 15-year-old from the Pleasanton Seahawks Tim Wuposted two new personal bests in the 200 (1:50.74) and 400 (3:57.56), shaving two tenths of a second off his previous best in the 200 (1:50.94 in February) and the 400 (3:58.11 last month), moving him to 32nd and 85th, respectively, in the 2015-16 NAG rankings.
Sophomore at Stanford University Ethan Harrington Harrington ran a personal best of 22.76 in the 50 freestyle heats, shaving a little over a tenth of a second off her previous best of 22.88 set last June to slip past the trials cut of 22.79. Harrington also took second behind her Cardinal teammate in the 100 freestyle (50.76). Luke Maurer (51.05) with a record high of 48.94 in 2022.
Girls' Summary
Middle distance freestyle specialist Leah Smith She's a big star who won the 200m freestyle (1:59.71) and 400m freestyle (4:09.39) at the women's track and field meet in Morgan Hill, California.
Smith, a bronze medalist in the 400 freestyle at the 2016 Rio Olympics and 4×200 freestyle relay champion, is a contender for his second Olympic berth this summer after missing out on a trip to Tokyo a few years ago. Smith ranks fifth among Americans in the 400 freestyle (4:07.85 at the pro swim series in Knoxville in January) and eighth in the 200 freestyle (1:59.14 at Knoxville in January) this year, putting her just outside the Olympic qualification bubble based on her recent performances.
Liberty Clark In the 50m freestyle, she recorded a personal best of 25.50, making the cut for the Olympic Trials. This was two tenths of a second faster than her personal best of 25.70 set earlier this month. The 16-year-old (25) from Indiana set her third personal best this month in the 50m freestyle. Her personal best this month was 25.89, set last August, two tenths of a second faster than her time at the Trials (25.69).
Clark's Crow Canyon Country Club Sharks teammate, 14, Daniella Linaresshowed impressive backstroke prowess en route to victories in the 50 backstroke (30.85), 100 backstroke (1:02.96) and 200 backstroke (2:13.88), all of which were personal bests in all three events. He improved his time in the 200 backstroke by almost three seconds to move into 31st place in the 2013-14 NAG rankings, and improved his time in the 100 backstroke by almost two seconds to become the 47th fastest swimmer in the country in his age group.
Palo Alto Stanford Swimming Club (PASA) Age 16 Kelsey Chan Zhang earned her spot in the national team trials with a personal best of 1:00.10 in the 100 butterfly in the heats. Her personal best from earlier this month (1:00.32) was just shy of the 1:00.19 cut for national team selection. Zhang also took first place in the 200 individual medley (2:17.19) and 400 individual medley (4:51.14), shaving nearly eight seconds off her 2022 personal best of 4:59.05 in the 400 individual medley.
Senior at Stanford University Anna Shaw He won the 100m freestyle in a time of 55.86 seconds, just shy of his 2021 personal best of 55.91 seconds, and is just one step away from the qualifying cut time of 55.79 seconds.
