ECCC Athletics story:
Decatur, Mississippi – East Central Community College has found its next women's basketball coach in Tiawana Pringle.
“The ECCC Warrior Athletics family is pleased to welcome Tiawana Pringle to the position of Head Women's Basketball Coach. Coach Pringle's passion for the game makes her an outstanding player and assistant coach. Everyone we talked to about her said she was ready to take the next step in her career and take the reins of her program as a head coach. We are excited to offer her that opportunity. Her local connections, as a standout athlete at a local high school and Meridian's lead recruiter, bring prospects to East Central. When Coach Pringle explained her vision for the future of the program, everyone on the committee agreed she was the right person to lead the women's basketball team into the future. She truly cares about her student-athletes inside and out, and her aforementioned passion for the game will be contagious as she develops young women individually and builds the Lady Warriors into a team that all of ECCC can be proud of. We can't wait for Coach Tiawana Pringle to get started!'' said ECCC Director of Athletics Paul Nixon.
Pringle joins East Central after spending seven years as an assistant coach on the coaching staff at Meridian Community College. She brings her recruiting skills and her local connections to East Central, where she recently recruited three all-conference players. Before she joined MCC, she served as her first coach for five years at Plainfield North High School in Plainfield, Illinois.
“I am very grateful for this opportunity to step into the world of head coaching. I would like to thank Mr. Paul Nixon. We always had great interactions during our time in the league, so I am very grateful for this opportunity to step into the world of head coaching. I look forward to working together on a professional level,” said Pringle. “I want to create a good culture around this program. I want to keep it fun and be involved in the community. My goal is to get women involved and to help them as athletes. I want them to grow not only as students, but also as students.”
Alongside his coaching duties at MCC, Mr. Pringle also served as academic liaison, demonstrating his dedication to improving the educational endeavors of student-athletes. Her primary responsibilities include overseeing and maintaining records of her NJCAA Study Hall requirements for student-athletes, helping students maintain good admission status, and ensuring student-athletes receive ongoing financial aid. This included making it available.
Pringle, a Meridian native and Louisiana Tech graduate, has an impressive personal history. After her stellar high school career, she earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology. She played for the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters women's basketball team and over four of her seasons she appeared in over 110 games. Pringle furthered her education and earned a master's degree in sports coaching education from the University of Southern Mississippi. This is a testament to her commitment to the sport and her continuous learning.
Pringle was a member of the Southeast Lauderdale girls basketball team. In her senior season, she led the Lady Tigers to the MSHAA 3A state title and won the 2006 Miss Basketball of Mississippi title.
