DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Ohio State won't open the 2024 football season for more than three months, but the debut trailer for EA Sports' “College Football 25” shows that fall is in the air today. I can feel it.
“College Football 25” is EA’s first college-based football game since the series ended with “NCAA Football 14” in 2013.
In addition to Brutus Buckeye's appearance, the trailer also shows Michigan's Donovan Edwards taking on an Ohio State player. Also included is a shot of former Buckeyes QB Kyle McCord passing the ball to Stanford.
That earlier series fell victim to lawsuits related to the use of players' likenesses: EA ultimately settled for $40 million for using players' faces without authorization and compensation, and the NCAA chipped in another $20 million.
That doesn't matter in “College Football 25.”
In the current era of college sports, the NIL allows various conferences to license their school names, stadiums, and traditions, and every player who participates in the game is compensated. (As with the real-life Power 5 football conferences, it turns out we don't actually need the NCAA.)
“College Football 25” launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles on July 19th (3 days earlier for those who purchase the Deluxe Edition).
