Dwyane Wade got a surprise while attending a basketball game with his family recently.
On Saturday, May 25, the 42-year-old former professional basketball player was spotted attending a WNBA game between the Chicago Sky and the Connecticut Sun at Wintrust Arena in Chicago with his wife, Gabrielle Union, 51, and their 5-year-old daughter, Kaavia.
Wade shared some photos from the outing on his Instagram, poking fun at the misspelling of his name displayed on the Jumbotron.
“Rarely home but always cheering on #SkyTown #DeWayneWade,” he captioned the post.
Throughout the slideshow, Wade is seen wearing a white “Girl Dad” cap and smiling alongside his family. His name appears incorrectly on the Jumbotron as “DeWyane Wade,” and he is listed as part of the Chicago Sky ownership group that he joined in 2023.

The comment section was abuzz with fans' shock at the spelling mistake, with comments like, “Who's DeWayne?” and “Oh no, someone must've messed up with the jumbotron graphics.”

Wade's Instagram carousel frequently features Kaavia sharing glimpses of family outings at the arena: In one shot, she's holding a basketball on the sideline with her dad, and in another, she's getting a tender hug from player Angel Reese.
Last week, Wade was awarded the Elevate Awards Catalyst Award for his work advocating for the transgender community. His eldest daughter, 16-year-old Zaya, with ex-wife Siobhan Funches, came out as transgender in 2020 with the support of her father and family.

When accepting the award, Wade called it the “Wade Family Award.”
“This is a part of the Wade family and everything we do. We feel that in order to make the world a better place in this area, there has to be an acceptance,” he said.

The father-daughter duo are working together on a digital platform called “Translatable” that aims to provide a safe space for LGBTQ+ youth to express themselves by sharing poetry, photography and other content, which also provides educational resources for those questioning their gender identity.

The basketball player praised Zaya's advocacy work, saying, “It's not like she wanted this special hype in her life. She just wanted to be a kid, do kid things, live her life, be selfish, worry about her own things. At her age, it's natural to worry about other people, but she's thinking about the larger community. So as a dad, I'm so proud of her.”
