Duke University's basketball program will have two players who will play internationally before joining the team in Durham this summer, as freshman Pat Ngomba II has been selected to the Team USA U18 national team.
Ngomba was one of five 2024 prospects invited to participate in training camp over the weekend and compete for a roster spot. The rest of the invitees were 2025 and 2026 freshmen.
USA Basketball was scheduled to have 28 players attend training camp but that number was cut to 18 on Saturday and a 12-man roster was announced on Tuesday.
Also joining the team is 2025 prospect Nate Ament, who has an offer from Duke University.
Pat Ngomba had a shaky senior season at Paul VI (Va.) High School after missing most of the season with a foot injury. He returned for the Chipotle Nationals, where his workload increased with each game, eventually resulting in a loss at the U.S. Championships to future teammate Cooper Flagg.
Due to the injury, Ngomba is ranked No. 25 in the 2024 class. 247Sports It maintains a 5-star overall ranking.
The future Blue Devils player will attend training camp with head coach John Scheyer and be one of four coaches assisting with on-court training. Scheyer is not part of the coaching staff that will travel overseas to the 2024 FIBA U-18 Men's America Cup.
The event will take place in Buenos Aires from June 3rd.
Duke freshman center Carman Maulak will also be playing internationally this summer as part of South Sudan's team for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, but is not expected to join the Blue Devils until after the Olympics.
Ngomba plans to be on campus for summer training immediately after the AmeriCup ends.
