duchesne — A member of Duchesne High School's boys basketball team may face charges in connection with a sexual assault reported earlier this year, police told KSL-TV.
Cedar City Police Sergeant Justin Ludlow said multiple Duchenne players are under investigation and one of them could face charges in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred at the hotel on Feb. 23 or 24. He said that there is a sex.
Duchesne's basketball team was in Cedar City at the time to participate in the 2A state basketball tournament at Southern Utah University. Mr Ludlow said police were notified on February 27 and an investigation began.
Ludlow has not provided specific details about the sexual assault allegations at this time. He said Cedar City police are still reviewing the case and will refer it to the Iron County Attorney's Office for any charges.
Duchesne Parish School District Superintendent Jason Young said in a statement that officials are taking the matter seriously.
“School officials who were made aware of the allegations notified both the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office and DCFS of the report,” Young said. “School officials also took immediate protective measures to ensure the safety of our students. Parents were notified and incorporated into our safety plan, as well as assisting Cedar City Police with their ongoing investigation.” , we continue to work with the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office.”
Young declined to say whether any Duchenne students had been disciplined, saying only that “the school's safety plan has been followed and has been very successful.”
Chief Deputy Jeremy Curry said the Duchene County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the investigation by interviewing those allegedly involved and passing information back to investigators in Cedar City.
