On March 12, students in the Dominican Republic loudly cheered on the university's men's volleyball team at the Ighini Sports Forum.
The forum was filled with 775 people, many of whom watched the Dominican Republic team compete against the Benedictine University team.
The lights in the gymnasium were dimmed, and the introductions began as each player walked through the blue smoke. The match began when the first ball was served.
Students wore golden Dominican Republic T-shirts and the section was filled from top to bottom.
They also made their own signs to hold up during games. One sign was labeled “Meaty Claws,” and another had a Butterfinger-inspired painting.
It was a close game with both teams going back and forth, but the Dominican national team took a 2-0 lead.
As the match became tense, the referee stepped in and issued blue cards to players from both teams who had jeered after some great play.
Dominican and Benedict both battled for the win, with junior Casey Goss leading the Stars in kills with an incredible game.
If the Stars achieve 30 kills throughout the game, students will receive a free promotional meal from Raising Canes.
However, the tide gradually shifted to Benedict, who finished both sets with repeated scores of 25-19.
Due to the significant impact on the season, the series was split into two sets per film.
The matchup between the two undefeated teams ended in a close 6-4 win for the Dominican Republic.
As the final set began, the students anxiously awaited their first serve. It started to look like a victory for the Dominican Republic, but the Stars suddenly found themselves fighting to avoid a comeback.
Benedict's online presence was the key to fighting back and tying the series. Their team maintained the lead and began silencing the crowd.
Benedictine ended the match with a 3-2 victory, thanks to an unexpected rotation mistake by Dominican towards the end of the match. Players, coaches and traveling fans rushed onto the court to celebrate.
The Stars won the final set score 3-2, but their conference record fell to 5-1.to follow dominican track and field team Please visit our website for upcoming match dates.
