BOURNE — During the much-needed break between the second overtime and the shootout, Marshfield High School and Arlington Catholic goalies Kevin Murphy and Patrick Clare hugged each other in a brief hug as they exchanged nets. It looked like they were patting each other on the back.

Claire, a junior captain from Lexington, weathered a suffocating storm from Marshfield's rush (which rang the post twice) in two overtime periods to send No. 18 seed Arlington Catholic to a decisive penalty shootout. is. “Credit to that kid, he made a great play in the net,” Marshfield head coach Dan Connolly said of Clare.
Clare's key stand came when AC 8th grader Aiden Giardina snuck into the blind side of a scrum in the crease to force overtime and ultimately put Clare away with Marshfield 1 minute 13 seconds into regulation. The game started with the team giving up a 1-point lead. The Rams advance to the semifinals for the second consecutive year.
Arlington Catholic will play No. 11 Winchester in the Final Four on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Loring Arena in Framingham.
“It went to (Murphy's) left,” Connolly said of the tying goal. “I think everyone thought the same thing. It was on the wrong side and we couldn't protect the back.” Both goals were backdoor goals. Murphy played well. Their kid (Claire) played incredibly well. I don't know what the final shots (total) were, but I thought maybe we hit him with 50-something shots. ”
“We played hard. That's all I said to the kids: 'You can go home with your heart held high.' We gave it our all,” Connolly added. “They played hard. It wasn't supposed to happen today.”
Senior center Tommy Carroll (10 goals and 16 assists this season) gave the Rams the lead at 4:38 of the third period when he deflected a shot from senior defenseman Michael Bekerian from the point.
“When you look at the list, the kids competed hard. I'm so proud of them,” Connolly said.

Marshfield appeared several days after being left out of a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over No. 7 Reading in the Sweet 16. Carroll was the hero in that game, and senior winger Cam McGettrick (11 goals, 22 assists this season) also scored again Wednesday, scoring his 100th career goal. McGettrick's goal from the left side was the milestone, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead at 8:32 of the first period.
Carroll, Murphy, Bekerian and Maggettrick are joined by winger Stephen Faria, winger Teddy DeVoe, defenseman Shane Keeler, defenseman Drew Dargan, winger Bennett Ewell, center Will Arnone and winger Matthew -Headlines a group of 11 outstanding seniors featuring Garland.
