Florida State football has added two more players to its growing list of injuries this spring season.
On Thursday, FSU head coach Mike Norvell announced that sophomore wide receiver Destin Hill and redshirt sophomore tight end Gerard Powers will miss the remainder of the spring season due to injury.
“Obviously we will continue to evaluate the situation and the extent of the injury as we head into the fall,” Norvell said. “We will provide updates on these two personnel on a personnel basis for the remainder of this spring.”
The wide receiver room and tight end room suffered significant losses in the offseason, and injuries to two players in both rooms could be dire.
Hill played in 10 games last season, started two, and had six receptions for 87 yards. With Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson gone, Hill is one of the players expected to play a bigger role this season.
Powers appeared in one game last season in his collegiate debut against Southern Miss. He did not record any statistics.
The tight end room suffered many losses in the offseason, with Jaheim Bell declaring for the NFL Draft and Markston Douglas and Preston Daniel transferring. Kyle Morlock is expected to take one of those starting spots at tight end, but is expected to take the other.
Hill and Powers are two of five players announced as injured for the spring season.
On March 26, Norvell announced that redshirt junior defensive tackle Joshua Farmer, redshirt senior offensive tackle Robert Scott and freshman defensive back Jamari Howard would be out due to injury.
Farmer and Scott are expected to return in time for summer practice, but Norvell said Howard will be sidelined for the beginning of the fall season.
