Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has accused Indian Premier League (IPL) broadcaster Star Sports of violating his privacy. Rohit revealed that despite his modest request, Star Sports continues to share audio and footage of his private chats with teammates and colleagues. Rohit argued that some common sense should prevail as broadcasters continue to interfere with the privacy of cricketers in order to gain extra clicks and social media engagement.
Rohit slammed Star Sports on social media platform It was recorded on camera.”
“The lives of cricketers have become so intrusive that cameras record every step and conversation we have in privacy with friends and colleagues during training and on match days.” Even though I asked them not to record my conversations, it was and always has been.''Then it also goes on air, which is an invasion of privacy, and they get exclusive content and views.'' And the need to focus only on engagement will one day destroy trust between fans, cricketers and cricket,” Rohit posted on X. (Formerly Twitter).
Rohit's rant came after his conversation with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) assistant coach Abhishek Nayar went viral on social media.
Also, a few days ago, Rohit humbly requested the official broadcaster's cameraman to disable the audio while recording a conversation with former MI and India teammate Dhawal Kulkarni. It was also seen there.
“Bhai audio band Karo Khan. Ek audio ne mera wat laga diya. (Brother, please close the audio, one audio is already making things difficult for me)” Rohit said in a clip recorded by Star Sports.
MI endured a tough season in the IPL and finished bottom of the 10-team points table.
Rohit lost his captaincy before the start of the season and the team decided to appoint Hardik Pandya as the new captain.
