Alabama basketball is no stranger to turnovers. The reconstituted roster accomplished what no other of his Tide teams had ever been able to accomplish in reaching the Final Four. On Friday night, a third player from that group entered the transfer portal, signaling more potential changes to head coach Nate Oats.
Davin Cosby Jr. announced his entry into Portal via Instagram. The guard was a rotational piece that penetrated the lineup in his only season. His 3-point shooting provided some highlight moments. Cosby was a four-star prospect.
Cosby joined UA last season to reach the Sweet 16. Although he was not eligible to play, he participated in team practices and was on the scout team. Cosby played in 22 games this season, averaging 3.6 points per game and shooting 36.6 percent from the field. Cosby started against Ole Miss on February 28, taking advantage of Chance and Oats' 3-point heavy scheme.
He attempted 10 3s with the Tide's guard rotation broken. He contributed to the turnaround that showed a glimpse of Alabama's potential, and in the end, the team made a historic run and overcame the strongest team in the nation. Like Rylan Griffen and walk-on Max Scharnauksi, Cosby has chosen to explore future opportunities. Redshirt freshman Chris Parker also entered the portal.
While the Tide awaits decisions on its most important guards, Mark Sears and Latrell Lightsell Jr., the Tide will reportedly welcome South Florida's Chris Youngblood. He averaged 15.3 points per game in a 25-win USF season that ended in the NIT. UA has already welcomed transfer guard Houston Mallett.
