Davis County High School senior Brayden Kaelin will continue his running career at Campbellsville University in the fall after signing his letter of intent Friday night.
After much consideration, Kaelin chose to join the Tigers program and is happy with his decision.
“The CU coaches and team were the main deciding factors,” Kaelin said. “The coaches and the team really believed in me and that alone really made me feel like CU was the right fit for me.”
Kaelin, who plans to major in exercise science, said the full scholarship offer was part of her decision, adding that she is looking forward to the family aspect of continuing running at the collegiate level.
Former coach Mark Fortney said Brayden made the biggest change of any player he ever coached.
“He was always going to do whatever it took to get to the next level. I'm proud of him and can't wait to see what he accomplishes at Campbellsville University.” He's a special young man,'' Fortney said.
Kaylin's mother, Tara Allen, also said she was happy with Kaelin's decision to sign with the Tigers after a recruiting process that lasted more than a year.
“I'm glad to know he chose a school and running program that he's happy with. Campbellsville is a great school and it's not far from home. Coach Corbin has been great to work with. “He seems to genuinely care about Brayden’s future as a college athlete,” Allen said.
After interviewing with several other schools and receiving offers from various college levels, Kaelin knew Campbellsville University was the right decision.
Coach Josh Bratcher is proud of Kaylin's progress and the example he sets for his teammates.
“Braden has grown into a very strong young man. He is a prime example of what can happen if you choose to work hard at what you want in running,” Bratcher said. “I didn't coach Brayden in his first year, but I heard he started running in his 20s. He's currently close to breaking 16 seconds for a 5K. He's grown so much and it's amazing. He's a young man. I can't wait to see where he goes in the future.”
The senior athlete said the presence of his coach contributed greatly to his success.
“I would like to thank Coach Fortney, Coach Bratcher, and Coach Kurtz for always believing in me and pushing me to be the best athlete I can be,” Kaelin said. “Thank you to all my teammates for making fun memories along the way that I will never forget. Thank you to my family for always supporting me and taking me to every race. ”
