Colorado Springs, Colorado (May 17, 2024) – On Friday, Brazil defeated the U.S. Women's National Team 3-1 (25-22, 25-16, 18-25, 25-19) to a roaring crowd in a Volleyball Nations League (VNL) qualifier. Ta. Rio de Janeiro.
The U.S. women's team (1-2) concludes the first round of VNL qualifying on Sunday at 10 a.m. Pacific time against the Dominican Republic (1-2).

More than 9,000 spectators filled the Maracanadinho to watch the rematch of the Tokyo 2020 gold medal match. Brazil defeated the US women for the first time in five years.
Outside hitter Jordan Larson led the U.S. in scoring with 17 points, including 15 kills, one block, and one ace. However, no other American player scored in double figures.
“Playing in Brazil in Brazil. It's an honor to play in a country that loves volleyball so much,” said U.S. setter Jordyn Poulter, who scored four goals. “We are still trying to figure things out. We use VNL in a very different way than other countries. We are trying to be in good shape within two months. But you don't necessarily have to put everything together right away.”
The U.S. women's team led Brazil in blocks (14-11) and aces (5-4). Brazil led in kills (54-50) and scored 24 points off of U.S. errors, while committing just 13 mistakes.
The United States could not slow down Brazilian outside hitter Gabi Guimarães, who finished with 24 points.
Outside hitter Ali Franti started the first two sets and scored nine points, including eight kills. Avery Skinner took over in the third and scored nine points, including eight kills.
Middle blocker Brionne Butler scored eight points, including a game-high five blocks. Middle player Chiaka Ogbogu also scored eight points, including two blocks.
His opponent, Daniel Cuttino, started the first two sets and scored six points, including two blocks. Maddie Skinner started the final two sets at opposite ends and also scored six points.
Outside hitter Sarah Wilhite Parsons came in as a pinch hitter and scored one run. Midfielder Anna Stevenson-Hall started the third set and earned one point, but had to leave after getting hit in the head during an attack.
