The internet is a big place. Unless you're connected 100% of the time (which, to be clear, we don't recommend), you're going to miss out on some things.
Let's do that work. Even if you're a well-adjusted person, a quick review can help you catch all the best sports moments of the week…
Duke launches campaign against courtroom attack
Duke suffered an upset loss to Wake Forest last Saturday, but the outcome of the game was quickly put on the back burner due to what happened after the final buzzer.
Demon Deacons fans flocked to the court to celebrate an important win that will help them advance to the NCAA Tournament. However, amidst the turmoil, Multiple fans clash with Duke forward Kyle Filipovskihe limped off the court.
Fortunately, it turned out to be a close call. Filipovski had nine points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Devils in a big win against Louisville on Wednesday.
But in the three days leading up to Wednesday's game, we were exposed to a national debate over the same issue. The question was, “Should attacks on courts be prohibited?”
This is a hot-button issue that seems to be reaching a boiling point right now, especially given Caitlin Clark's own close call at Ohio State earlier this season.
Duke head coach John Scheier didn't question his position on the issue. He hopes courtroom attacks will end forever.
Many in the media seem to agree with Scheyer's opinion.. I don't know if I'm one of them, but I'm sure there are some common sense rules you can put in place to reduce the risk to opposing players. As Shier mentioned, a 10 second delay is a good place to start.
One thing I think we can all agree on is that ESPN analyst (and Duke alum) Jay Bilas had the most over-the-top view of this whole thing. He suggested that all the court attackers be arrested.
somehow I don't think the university would arrest thousands of die-hard fans. Great idea! But good luck.
Hot-blooded RJ Davis saves Tar Heels
On Monday night, North Carolina almost gave up a point to Miami, but RJ Davis didn't allow it.
After a rough 1-for-14 loss against Virginia, the senior guard was unstoppable against the Hurricanes. He set a new Smith Center record with 42 points.
This is the most points by a UNC player in any venue since Charlie Scott in 1970, and the first time a Tar Heel has accounted for more than half of the team's points. Since Michael Jordan in 1983.
Davis' performance on Monday was truly special and will be remembered by Carolina fans for a long time.
This is likely not the only history Davis claims this season. The New York native is less than 100 points away from the exclusive 2,000-point club and also within striking distance of single-season free throw percentage and 3-point shooting records.
Oh, and he's definitely the frontrunner for ACC Player of the Year. Pretty, pretty good!
A wild week in women's hoops
I would like to begin with a simple apology to the state of North Carolina. I can't help but feel like my lavish praise for them in last week's column contributed to their two losses in last week's rivalry showdown.
NC State went on the road and lost to NC State and NC State. and In the latest AP poll, they fell six spots to No. 12, trailing Duke by double digits.
Not all is lost for the Wolfpack. Thrilling overtime victory over syracuse on Thursday. Their status as a top-three seed for March Madness should be pretty secure, but they'll probably need to win the ACC Tournament to get back on the second line.
That being said, the Tar Heels and Blue Devils need key props as both wins were huge.
UNC looked like a team that could do some damage again in the big dance. They shot over 50 percent. They won from the field Thursday, posting a top-10 home win for the fifth consecutive season.
Of course, the Tar Heels couldn't repeat that performance in their next two games — road losses to Virginia Tech (no shame) and Boston College (amazing).
Although Duke didn't shoot as well as North Carolina State, it was the defense that got most of the attention as it built a big early lead en route to Sunday's victory.
The Blue Devils held the Wolfpack to just 19 points in the first half. They rank first in the ACC in scoring defense, field goal percentage and blocks.
It all comes down to tournament time. This group is battle-tested. All of a sudden, all three teams in the Triangle were able to compete at their best in the Big Dance.
Cam Newton unfazed by virus outbreak
Newsflash: Trying to mess with Cam Newton is still a bad idea.
a Viral video shows several men attempting to jump over former Panthers great at a 7-on-7 football event in Atlanta this weekend. That didn't work out for them.
The brawl followed a day after a “heated game” between Newton's C1N Under-18 team and Top Shelf Performer's U18 team, according to The Athletic's Joe Person.
“On Sunday afternoon, officials from Top Shelf Performance, the wide receiver training facility in Atlanta where the youth team was attending, were at the top of the stairs under the Wee Ball Sports tent,” Persson said. “He approached Newton. Newton was grabbed and a scuffle ensued.” The two men seen wrestling with Newton are both top-shelf performance coaches who also previously served as quarterbacks coaches, according to a person familiar with Elite 7-on-7 football. It is said that There the argument continued. Police and security personnel broke up the altercation. ”
Here's what we know about why the fight happened, but the big takeaway here is that Cam Newton remains Superman, even if he's not currently on an NFL roster. is.
his way shrugged multiple attackers as his hat It was completely still forever It's legendary.
Durham Bulls players score with hilarious inside-the-park home runs in spring training
Not all home runs are created equal. Just ask Durham Bulls outfielder Kameron Meisner.
The Tampa Bay Rays prospect hit a home run in the box score in Sunday's spring training game against the Tigers, but that doesn't tell the whole story.
Meisner's home run was an inside-the-park home run, usually accompanied by some shenanigans…but I've never seen anything like this.
Meisner hit a pop fly to shallow right-center field. Four tigers chased him, but none could catch him. Sounds like a run-of-the-mill blockbuster single, right?
That wasn't the case this time, as Detroit shortstop Andrew Navigat stumbled and executed a perfect scorpion kick that sent the ball flying further into the right field seats.
Meisner crossed home plate standing still and now has a story to tell for the rest of his career. Baseball can be so fun and weird sometimes.
Blue Jays pitcher gets punishment for fantasy football (literally)
Speaking of spring training fun, there may be a new leader in the clubhouse when it comes to fantasy football penalties for professional athletes.
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Tim Meza had to change his jersey number for Saturday's game, but he didn't have to change it to something he's never seen before.
Mayza's numbers are “4-10”. This fantasy football season we have 4 wins and 10 losses. ah.
Adding to the humiliation, Meiza served as a batboy against the Phillies, which spared him from wearing an unconventional jersey number.
But I'd like to take this a step further. These should also be Meiza's numbers for the entire regular season.
seriously. Who does this hurt?
The idea that jersey numbers must be integers from 1 to 99 is outdated.
This kind of thing is fun. Sports should be fun. Please make it happen, MLB!
See you next week.
