University of Colorado superstar wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter announced Friday that he will appear in the upcoming EA Sports College Football 25 video game.
Hunter posted a College Football 25 graphic on Instagram with the caption, “I'm in the game.”
EA Sports' wildly popular college football video game franchise has been dormant for more than a decade, with NCAA Football 14 being the last release in 2013.
A lawsuit over student-athletes not being compensated for the use of their likeness in games was a fatal blow to the franchise, but in 2021 the Supreme Court ruled that college athletes are not compensated for their name, image and likeness. Things have changed since the court ruled that it can be paid (NIL).
This sets the wheels in motion for the revival of EA Sports' popular video game series, with College Football 25 set to be officially released before the start of the 2024 college football season.
According to ESPN's Michael Rothstein, EA Sports announced that all 134 FBS teams will participate in College Football 25.
EA Sports also revealed that all players who choose to participate in the game will be compensated with $600 and a free copy of College Football 25.
In addition, some players will have the opportunity to become brand ambassadors for the game, although Hunter's Instagram post included a note that it is a “paid partnership” with EA Sports College Football 25. Therefore, it seems that the same applies to hunters as well. .
Hunter began his college career at FCS Jackson State, but when Deion Sanders left Jackson State to become the head coach at the University of Colorado, Hunter went with him.
Hunter was limited to nine games in his first season with the Buffaloes due to injury, but was still very productive, with 57 receptions, 721 yards, and five touchdowns, as well as 30 tackles and 30 tackles on defense. He recorded three interceptions and five passes.
Hunter's star power and status as a two-way player will likely make him one of the most utilized players in College Football 25, and his addition means a big change for EA Sports .
