SEATTLE โ The Peninsula University men's soccer team continued its tradition of holding a spring scrimmage against the University of Washington.
The Pirates, the defending NWAC champions, were acquitted of Sunday's game, trailing just 1-0 in the first half before ultimately losing 3-0 on University Field. UW is not just a team either. The Huskies were the 2022 Pac-12 Champions, ranked 11th and qualified for the NCAA “Soccer Cup” tournament.
Last year, the Huskies traveled to Port Angeles to play Peninsula in an exhibition at Wally Sigmar Field. The University also took the ferry to Victoria and played against the University of Victoria later the same day. This year, the Huskies also played against universities. Peninsula coach Jake Hughes said the series of exhibitions against UW “helps in multiple ways.”
“It's a chance to test ourselves against one of the top teams in Division I,” he said.
“It can also be a showcase for our players to show their potential to be scouted,” he said.
Hughes said Peninsula has had a good relationship with UW dating back to 2012.
“They were very respectful and humble towards us. It was an honor to play with them,” he said.
