TEMPLE, Texas — This March, the City of Temple will honor a beloved community figure, longtime soccer coach and official Peter Den Harder.
On Saturday, March 23, at 10 a.m., the city will honor Den Harder at a dedication ceremony for Peter Den Harder Field at the Crossroads Soccer Complex, 6600 Research Loop in Temple, Texas.
According to the City of Temple, Den Harder became a valued member of the Temple community when he arrived in 1980. Den Harder “always had a passion for the game of soccer,” City said, initially playing for the Temple Hotspurs.
According to the city, Den Harder played for numerous local soccer clubs for more than 35 years, including the Ralph Wilson Youth Club, Centex Storm Soccer Club, Temple Unified FC and Liverpool FC America. He is said to have given guidance.
In addition to coaching, Den Harder also directed 42 high school games, according to the city.
”[Den Harder] “He showed immense love for his family, and his deep passion for soccer was evident through his years of active involvement as a player, coach and referee,” the city of Temple said in an announcement about the dedication. .
Den Harder passed away on July 30, 2020, at the age of 64, after leaving an “everlasting mark on our soccer community,” according to the city.
“Peter's love for the game led him to become a player, coach, training director, mentor, referee and board member,” said Centex Soccer General Manager Ron Davis. “His sense of fair play is legendary.
Members of the community are invited to a dedication ceremony honoring Den Harder.
