The Columbia High Bruins boys soccer team (6-1 league, 8-2 overall) had a light schedule last week, but Stevenson's quick work led to a 13-2 victory.
Prior to the match, coach Gio Magaña Rivera called on his players to “concentrate on finishing and attacking.” [shooting], set pieces, crosses and plays designed to get to the goal faster. ”
The Bruin boys accomplished that, contributing to the 11-goal victory with goals from Damien Sanchez, Uli Huerta, Luke Miller, Isaac Reynoso and Matt Miller.
“I think the team needs to stay focused for the entire 80 minutes of the game,” Magana Rivera said. “For most of the game, we defended well and didn't allow any shots on goal.
“But then we let our guard down and Stevenson committed two breakaways.” [goals] They took advantage of it. ”
Coach Magaña Rivera said the game at Stevenson (the Bulldogs are 2-6 in league play, 3-6 overall) will be a great fit for the defense, especially against rival Seton, who is scheduled to play White Salmon on April 23rd. He said he hopes it will be a learning experience with Catholicism. Ranked 1st in the Trico League rankings. Seton Catholic is 8-0 in league play and 8-2-1 overall).
“I'm excited for our players going into a game against a top team like Seton Catholic,” Magana Rivera said. “They are the only team to shut us out this season and when they come to our home on Tuesday night and have the community behind us supporting us like they have all season. , I hope that doesn't happen.”
“I told the players that it feels like we haven't had an away game all season, because when you look in those stands, you just see Bruins fans screaming loud and proud. That's why our family and community came to see us every game, rain or shine, whether it was an hour or four hours away.”
CHS entered this week ranked No. 9 in the state WIAA Class 1A rankings and won its fourth straight game against Seton Catholic at 6 p.m.
