The Winter Park High School boys volleyball team is celebrating an undefeated season that ended with a thrilling victory over defending champion Miami Southwest at the Florida High School Athletic Association Championships on Saturday at Polk State University.
The win, reported on OrlandoSentiel.com on Saturday, came after the Wildcats won by a score of 31-29, 25-22, 23-25, 25-13 against Lake Howell in the semifinals. . They defeated Miami Southwest in the first two sets of the final, 25-18 and 25-18, but lost the third and fourth sets, 20-25 and 14-25. In the fifth set, with Miami just one point away from winning, Winter Park scored four straight points to tie the game at 16-14.
The Wildcats entered the championship ranked No. 1 in the state by MaxPreps and No. 2 in the FHSAA Power Rankings. This is the second state championship for the Wildcats, the first being in 2022 when the team finished 18th in the USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association Men's Volleyball Super 25.
Local athletes will be back in the spotlight next month when boat No. 8 of the women's squad returns to the UK to represent the Winter Park crew at the 2024 Henley Royal Regatta from 2nd to 7th July. You will be bathed.
