Kane maintains hope for trophyPublished at 08:23
Bayern Munich 3-0 Lazio (3-1 aggregate)
With just 101 days left until the start of Euro 2024, England captain Harry Kane has produced a valuable double to keep his side's season alive.
After a smart move involving Rafael Guerreiro and Thomas Muller, his shot was saved by Lazio keeper Ivan Proveder in the 38th minute.
His 50th goal in European competitions lifted the mood inside the Allianz Arena, and in first-half stoppage time Müller scored a narrow header from Matthijs de Ligt's fierce volley.
Kane's second goal sealed an impressive victory before Muller hit the post in the closing stages.
The former Tottenham player has scored 33 goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League since moving to Germany for an initial £86.4m plus add-ons.
“As a striker, especially in big matches, in the knockout stages like tonight, you are judged on goals and assists,” Kane said.
“Being able to help the team gives me confidence and it gives the team confidence.
“I just keep doing what I'm doing. In terms of goals, it's been a good season for me so far, but I know we can improve as a team.”
Thomas Tuchel's side are facing their first season without a major trophy since the 2011-12 season.
However, the win kept Tuchel's hopes alive of delivering Bayern a seventh European title before the former Chelsea manager steps down at the end of the season.
