MONTREAL — Quebec native Catherine Dubois will once again play professional hockey in her hometown after signing a one-year contract extension with PWHL Montreal.
The 28-year-old made 24 appearances for the team in 2024, scoring two goals and providing four assists. Her new contract runs through the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Dubois was not selected in the first PWHL Draft in 2023, but signed with Montreal as a reserve player after the draft and eventually became a mainstay on the team.
“Katherine was not only a fan favorite, but also extremely popular in the locker room with her ever-present smile and contagious positive energy,” Montreal general manager Daniel Sauvageau said in a press release Monday morning. “We know what she brings to our team and we expect her to have a great season in her second year.”
Prior to her time in the PWHL, the 5'10″ forward played collegiate hockey for five seasons at the University of Montreal before eventually joining the professional hockey ranks. She then played two years with Team Montreal in the PWHPA and one season with the Montreal Force in the PHF until the PWHL is established in 2023. Since Dubois has basically played her entire career with Montreal, it would only make sense for her to sign a contract extension with her local PWHL team in her home province.
“I'm excited to have the opportunity to come back to Montreal and continue to play in front of some great fans. I'm looking forward to reuniting with my teammates and playing in front of such an energetic crowd again,” Dubois said.
Dubois is the third forward to be granted a contract extension by the team, joining Claire Dalton and Mikayla Grant-Mentis, who signed one-year extensions in recent weeks. Lina Ljungblom, who played last season in Sweden and was selected in the 2023 draft, was also one of the forwards to sign with the team this offseason.
In other contract news, Montreal granted contract extensions to defenders Mariah Keopoulou (one year) and Amanda Boullier (two years) and goalkeeper Elaine Tuli (one year), while the club also signed 2024 draft pick Kayla Barnes to a three-year entry-level contract. Meanwhile, forward Melody D'Aoust announced her retirement and will not return to Montreal for the 2024-25 season.
According to the players' association, salary terms of the contract will not be made public.
