The 2024 Callaway football season has come to an end, but the individual accolades continue to pour in. The Cavaliers had six boys and seven girls named to the Region 5-2A All-Region team.
On the boys side, four players were named to the first team. This unit was led by senior Grayson Batchelor, who was named 2A Player of the Year, GACA All-State, and Diversity All-Star. He is joined on the team by fellow senior Junie Jordan, who has signed to play soccer at Andrews University in the fall.
The Cavaliers also had sophomores Jayden Bailey and Ricky Vaughn named to the first team. Bailey came into his own in the middle of the park, while Vaughn continued his hot start on Callaway's soccer pitch on the wing.
Both players will be required to make further strides next season.
Two members of the boys team were named to the second team: sophomore Brayden Morris and junior Christian Cook. Morris was also named the team's Most Improved Player as the goaltender made great strides from his freshman season to his sophomore season. Cook was away from football for a while, but he returned this season and played a big role in Callaway's midfield.
Angel Vazquez, Andre Molina and Darius Kimbrough all made the honorable mention list.
The women's team had one more player on the all-region team than the men's team. The Cavaliers added three female players to the first team: Mary Kate Buswell, Sofia Flores and Aylin Ulloa. Buzzwell has been the most impactful player on her team this season and will apply those skills at LaGrange College in the fall. Buzzwell was also named one of the team's two DiVaristy All-Stars.
Flores is a freshman and has been one of the most talented players in Callaway's system in recent memory, and he's only going to get better from here. His grades have been steadily rising for Ulloa, who had his best season as a Cavalier during his senior season.
Four girls were also selected to the second team. Cadence Reissreiter led the second team and was named a DiVarsity All-Star. The defensive midfielder will play alongside Buswell at LaGrange College next year.
Cadence joined the second team along with her sister Alaina. The sophomore goaltender was a breakout player for the Cavaliers this season. Senior defender Deyani Velasquez and sophomore forward Isla Garcia were also named to the second team along with the Reitreiter sisters.
