Kevin Young and the BYU basketball program have been working day and night to fill out their roster for next season. As of this writing, BYU still has four scholarship spots open. BYU will be recruiting players from all over the world and using Young's NBA connections to land the best talent. One of the prospects BYU has its eye on is Russian combo guard Egor Demin. Currently playing for Real Madrid in Europe, Demin is one of the top prospects in the 2025 NBA Draft. In ESPN's latest mock draft, he was projected to be the ninth overall pick.
The Cougars have had interest in Demmin for some time, and while the scholarship offer is merely a formality at this point, BYU has officially offered Demmin a scholarship, according to Ensestand, a Spanish website that covers European basketball. In the same article, Ensestand reports that Demmin plans to leave Real Madrid to play college basketball next year.
Nothing is guaranteed in recruiting, especially when international prospects are involved, but bringing Demin to Provo would be one of the biggest recruiting wins in BYU basketball history — maybe even the greatest recruiting win of all time, or maybe even the second-greatest behind the Shawn Bradley signing in the 1980s.
Demmin has elite size as a 6'8″ guard. His size and well-rounded offensive prowess make him one of the top prospects in the 2025 NBA Draft. He has excellent ball-handling skills, can distribute and generate offense, and can make the 3-point shot.
Kevin Young said in his introductory press conference that he wants to build a pipeline to the NBA at BYU, and Demmin would be the best NBA prospect to play in Provo since Jimmer Fredette.
