HOUSTON – The HCU beach volleyball team opened the 2024 season with a win over Central Arkansas on Friday at the Third Coast Volleyball Club, but lost to No. 6 LSU in the Third Coast College Classic.
In the opener, the Huskies (1-1) defeated the Bears (0-2) 4-1.duo of new students Rachel Heilbrun Tatum Lockhart got things started with a two-set victory, 21-14, 21-11 in four sets, and UCA's Madeline White and Audrey Cathcart defeated HCU in five sets. gabi axelrod and alicia silverthorne, 24-22, 14-21, 15-11.Huskies No.2 pair abby bufkin and mary alper They won 21-16, 21-13, followed by the No. 1 pair. kristen kreimeyer and Christine Gilmore They won the deciding points in the second set, 21-15 and 21-17. In the ensuing match against the top-ranked Tigers (2-0), the Huskies lost 5-0. gabi axelrod Alicia Silverthorne played two close sets in fifth place, but lost in two sets, 21-18, 21-18. In the second round, Bufkin and Griffith lost 21-14, 21-15.
HCU returns to the sand on Saturday, Feb. 24, the second morning of the 15-man 3rd Annual Coast College Classic.th– Ranked Washington at 11 a.m. and finishes the tournament against No. 4 TCU at 5 p.m.
